Dear Colleagues:
I’ve often heard the following this past week, “We’re all in this together!” I echo that sentiment, especially as a fellow special education director in Virginia. These are stressful times to be a special education leader and we want VCASE to continue to be your source for useful and relevant information. The VCASE Executive Committee has been communicating regularly to determine our course of action during these unprecedented times.
We made the difficult decision to cancel the Spring Conference. Even when the immediate crisis lessens, we know that special education administrators will be extremely busy providing guidance to principals, teachers and parents which will not leave time for our annual spring professional development. We will set our sights on planning a robust fall conference that hopefully we will still be able to provide. Using our website and monthly email Newsbriefs, we will share pertinent information.
In closing, my hope is that all of us can practice effective self-care strategies that enhance our ability to care for our own families as well as an effective leader in our divisions and the state. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us on the Executive Committee.
